Digital Shadow — Usage Policy

Effective: 21 April 2026

This Usage Policy ("Policy") governs your use of Digital Shadow (the "Service"). By creating an account, redeeming an invite or promotion code, or interacting with the Service through the web app or WhatsApp, you agree to this Policy.

Digital Shadow is an AI-powered personal memory system that captures and enriches your text, voice, images, and WhatsApp messages to help you recall your own life context. Because the Service processes deeply personal content, we ask you to use it responsibly.

1. Who Can Use the Service

Access to Digital Shadow is currently limited. You may only register using:

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account, including any active sessions on linked devices.

2. Your Content

You retain ownership of the journal entries, voice recordings, images, and other content you submit to the Service ("Your Content"). You grant Digital Shadow a limited licence to store, process, enrich (including through AI entity extraction, transcription, embedding, face detection, and summarisation), and display Your Content back to you — solely to operate the Service.

Your Content is stored in a per-user database isolated from other users. We do not share Your Content with other users, and we do not use it to train third-party AI models.

You are solely responsible for Your Content and for ensuring you have the right to submit it. In particular:

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

a. Break the law. Do not submit, store, or generate content that is illegal under applicable law, including content that is defamatory, infringing, fraudulent, or that depicts the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors.

b. Harm or harass others. Do not use the Service to stalk, harass, threaten, dox, or build profiles of third parties without a lawful basis. The entity knowledge graph and relationship mapping features are intended for your own memory, not for surveilling others.

c. Record without consent. Do not upload audio, images, or conversation recordings of other people in circumstances where doing so violates applicable recording, wiretap, or privacy laws.

d. Circumvent the Service. Do not attempt to access another user's account, data, or per-user database; reverse engineer, decompile, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities outside a responsible-disclosure channel; bypass authentication, rate limits, or admin controls; or tamper with AI enrichment pipelines, search thresholds, or LLM routing.

e. Scrape or automate abusively. Do not use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to submit entries, send WhatsApp messages, issue recall queries, or extract data at a rate or volume beyond ordinary personal use. Do not resell, redistribute, or proxy access to the Service or to the upstream AI providers it uses (including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google).

f. Build a competing service. Do not use the Service, its outputs, or observations of its behaviour to develop, train, or benchmark a competing personal-memory or journaling product.

g. Abuse AI features. Do not deliberately submit prompts or entries designed to (i) extract system prompts or internal instructions, (ii) manipulate the enrichment pipeline into mislabelling entities or relationships belonging to third parties, (iii) generate content that violates the acceptable use policies of the underlying AI providers, or (iv) cause disproportionate cost or load on AI providers.

h. Misuse WhatsApp integration. Do not use the WhatsApp channel to send spam, unsolicited commercial messages, or content that violates WhatsApp's own terms. Slash commands and draft workflows are for your personal journalling only.

4. AI-Generated Output

The Service uses third-party large language models to extract entities, detect moods, generate summaries, answer recall queries, and synthesise search results. AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or biased. You should not rely on it for legal, medical, financial, or other consequential decisions without independent verification.

Entity extraction, relationship mapping, face detection, and summarisation are probabilistic. Errors (including incorrect names, relationships, or face matches) will occur; you are responsible for reviewing, correcting, merging, or deleting any output that is wrong.

5. Service Availability and Changes

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Features are added, changed, deprecated, and removed regularly as the product evolves. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this Policy, and we may change AI provider routing, models, search thresholds, or storage backends without prior notice.

6. Enforcement

If we believe you have violated this Policy, we may, at our discretion and without prior notice:

We prefer the lightest effective response. Serious or repeated violations — especially those involving illegal content, harm to others, or abuse of AI providers — will usually result in permanent removal.

7. Reporting Abuse

If you believe someone is misusing the Service, or if you have received a message or content through Digital Shadow that violates this Policy, please report it through the in-app feedback channel or contact the operator directly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by email. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

This Policy sits alongside the Digital Shadow Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. In case of conflict, the Terms of Service prevail on matters of contract, and the Privacy Policy prevails on matters of personal data.
